Who we are
Caritas is a Latin word that means charity
Caritas Egypt was established in 1967 as an emergency aid during the Arab-Israel conflict, in which, it had an official national NGO in November 1967 under the registration No.1150.Caritas is a public benefits organization with the Republican Decision number 266 in 1975.Caritas works through various sectors’ intervention programs as follows:
- Refugees Sector
- Basic Education Sector
- Social Club Sector “Youth Volunteers”
- Leprosy Control Sector
- Developing persons with Disability and Their Families-SETI center for training and studies in disability Sector
- Micro credit for small projects development Sector
- Desert communities’ Development Sector
- Prevention of substance abuse and rehabilitation Sector
- Preschool Child development sector
- Protection and rehabilitation of children at risk Sector
- Women Empowerment Sector (WE)
- AIDS Intervention Unit (AIU)
- Eradication of female genital mutilation Sector
- Psychological Support Sector
- Elderly support sector
Caritas is currently in charge of the secretariat of the Egyptian Network for National Associations for AIDS Control (ENNAA) and is an elected member of the board of directors of the Arab Regional AIDS Network (RANAA).

We strive for social change by respecting human rights principles. We build awareness, provide expertise and support vulnerable people and fragile communities. We empower them and create opportunities, so that they may realize their potential and participate in social, economic and cultural life. We work with local, national and international partners – civil society organization and governments alike – for sustainable development.
